Biodiversity Atlas Austria
An Open-Access Online Portal for Researching Austria's Biodiversity
The Atlas makes data on Austria's biodiversity available online. The aim is to make Austria's biological diversity easily and freely researchable for everyone.
The atlas represents a Information, Research, Analysis, and Visualization Tool based on the Atlas of Living Australia – Australia's National Biodiversity Database. The special feature is the linkage of species occurrence data and other biological information with a wide variety of contextual and environmental information, such as data on land use and climate or administrative data. This makes it possible to gain new information about connections and interactions, thereby providing an improved basis for understanding and protecting biodiversity and its ecosystem services.
The Biodiversity Atlas provides valuable and new information to scientists, policymakers, conservationists, students, and more. The portal makes it possible to obtain information about typical native organisms and habitats, explore the biodiversity of a specific region, and also make more complex queries as well as generate graphics and maps. For example, interested individuals can use the Atlas to explore the state of biodiversity in their area. The information provided can also support the planning of projects in road construction or urban development, etc., and serve as decision-making aids for policymakers on important future projects. These are just some of the countless possibilities offered by the application of the Atlas and its tools.
